Caterpillar Container Forklifts - Specifically Designed to Unload and Load Huge, Heavy Freight Containers
Container Forklift
A type of machine which is specially utilized to load and unload heavy, large freight containers is called a container forklift. They are utilized to transport freight on and off trains, ships and truck beds. Container forklifts are the biggest and most sturdy kinds of forklifts made. They need to be extremely maneuverable on uneven terrain and have enough torque and power to raise large containers safely. Normally, they have heavy-duty diesel engines and big pneumatic tires.
A container forklift, like all kinds of forklift, utilizes forks to raise the containers. Forks have to be positioned to ensure the load is secure during transport. Various types of container forklifts are only designed to raise the containers a few meters off the ground. Other container handlers utilize another method for carrying containers to greater heights. A container handler uses an apparatus attached to the front of the vehicle to clamp down on either end of the container like jaws. The machine is counterbalanced with weights to be able to maintain stability.
The main purpose of a container forklift is to lift and transport containers. Standard forklifts do not have sufficient reach for working in ports. The forks are rated according to the maximum weight they can handle. The capabilities of the forklift should be posted prominently in the cockpit and should never be exceeded.
Why Caterpillar Pneumatic Tire Forklifts are Also Referred to as Pallet Trucks or Pump Trucks
Use a Pneumatic Forklift
Pneumatic forklifts are common in shipping and warehouse operations. Also called pump trucks or pallet trucks, they are utilized so as to move materials and products around on wooden pallets utilizing metal forks which are mounted on a wheeled counterweight. The counterweight contains a pump which can raise the forks off the ground. A pallet truck is intended to be operated by a single individual.
Pallet trucks should be operated with care in order to avoid loss of control while raising heavy loads. Equipment must be inspected before operating. Clear the wheels area of any obstructions. Check that the handle turns smoothly. The pallet should be stacked carefully to ensure that nothing would fall off during transportation.
In order to release air in the pump and lower the forks, squeeze the lever situated on the inside of the metal loop on the end of the pallet truck's handle. The forks can then be pushed into the slots of the pallet. The forks should be at the center to guarantee even distribution of the pallet's weight across them. Raise the forks from the ground by pumping the handle of the pneumatic lift until the pallet has cleared the ground completely. Do not raise the pallet too high or the forklift can unbalance.
Move the pallet by pulling on the handle and dragging it behind you. It is not safe to push the pallet in front of you because the momentum can cause it to go out of control. Take turns slowly and don't attempt to stop abruptly. Gradually stop, squeeze the lever, and the forks will lower to the ground. Lastly, remove the forks from the pallet by pulling them out. Return the pallet truck to its permanent location.
